Proposals for Developing and Educating Globally Oriented Scientific and Technical Talent

In recent years, Japanese companies have been faced with the mounting problem of the declining scientific, mathematical, and technical competency of their technicians and researchers, who are in fact the determinant factor for the competitiveness of manufacturing industries.  Because of the urgency of the matter, the JMF established a special committee in FY 2011 that, for three years, studied the issues of developing and educating globally oriented scientific and technical talent. The committee looked at science and math education from the perspective of the manufacturing industry and, in January 2014, completed a compilation of proposals for reform and reexamination of science and math education from the elementary and middle school levels through the high school level.  The proposals were entitled “Promoting MISTEE Education,” and were presented to government agencies and educational organizations.
